To the right of this text (above on mobiles) shows an random example of a PHD Thesis cover among the thousands that we have make all through the years to PhD students who followed the instructions provided below. In the last section there is a link to the rest of samples that we show on this web.
In order to print your PhD Thesis, we need an electronic document (usually a PDF). If you still do no have it, we have some advice on how to design and layout your PhD Thesis or Master Thesis.
We are digital printers and our main bussiness is to produce books for publishers, comercial books that are sold on regular book shops, like FNAC. So, we produce the PhD Thesis the very same way, with the same commercial quality and quotations are always given based of the book number and the page number of each one; we never provide such a quotation based on the number of xerocopies. Like traditional printers, we print on large sheets of paper than are cut down to the proper size; we do not print sheet by sheet. So, we always produce book 2 by 2 or 4 by 4 depending upon the size or the page.
We can print the PhD Thesis on any kind of paper, including uneven paper (bumpy paper).
To simplify, we are going to cover 3 types of paper for PhD Thesis, those regularly requested by PhD students:
Even though technically is a density measure in grams/square meter, it is always called on just the weight unit avoiding the squared meters.
As the weight of the paper is increased, so it is its hardness and consequently less flexible an so it is harder to flip pages. So not neccesarily higher weight means better results. The best for your PhD Thesis is to use the "proper" paper, based on type of pages (color or black&white) and the number of pages. It is not advisable to make PhD Thesis with more than 500 pages with 100 gr paper, because the resulting book would be 30 mm thick (35 mm with hard cover) and consequntly hardly usable.
Ous systems do not use liquid ink, and consequetly do not soak the oppositte side of the sheet of paper. We print bibles and similar extremly long books with over 1000 pages with 60gr paper very thin and still they are manejable.
For PhD Thesis, we regularly use 100 gr matt paper or 90 gr satin. In very long thesis, we advice to use 80gr. If it is very short, less than 100pg, then we can use 120gr. But this paper is quite hard and not advisable. Nonetheless we have it always available.
Our advice is to use 100 gr for most of the thesis in black&white and in case of 450 pg or more reduce it up to 80. No less than 80 gr is adviced, so in thesis over 1000 pages, we recommend to divide it in two books.
For Color PhD Thesis, we advice to use 90 gr satin offset.
The couche paper it is not adviced based on the description on point n. 2 (paper types). Nonetheles, if needed, we can use 115gr, 130 gr or 150 gr cuche paper. The produced thesis will be less thick, (as descibed above) and since we use higher density paper, they are more expensive. On the positive, they are heavier and so some people do appreciate them as well as the fact that it is the same paper as the one used on magazines.
Finally we show you a video that can be seen on the page abouy tecnology for PhD Thesis printing where, among other facts, you can check that it is not a xerocopier. Afterwards there is some templates, that do not have much sense, but if they are useful to anybody....
This templates are NOT needed in order to print and bind your PhD Thesis by us. They are here just in case it can be helpful to anybody for starter so they do not use a blank document. Remember, though, that if you copy an paste paragraphs from other documments, you will bring the page setup with them and the setup will be the same as the original file, not the one you download from these pages.
Word set up the pages based on the installed printers in your system. So if your printer can not handle 19x27 cm y el 17x24 cm, even though you can open them, Word will chage the layout without asking you. Some printers allow to define personalized sizes, so you may need to define them first.
In book design, like in art or fashion, there are no right or wrong. It is a free art and so there are things that like to us or do not like to us. Layout, that ultimately is design, every margin, every font, every color combination, .... are right if you personally like them. Technically speaking, the design of your thesis do not affect at all to print it.
